The 2022 World Poultry Congress was held in Paris, France from August 7-11. Karen, Carolin, Bruna, Jo Ann, and myself along with Tennille Knezacek from the UofS Poultry Extension Group attended.
Jo Ann and Bruna presented some of their research from their MSc and PhD projects and Karen gave a presentation on the International Poultry Welfare Alliance (https://www.poultrywelfare.org/). Lastly we are excited to announce that the location for the next WPC in 2026 will be Toronto!

Bruna successfully defended her PhD thesis “The Influence of Wavelength on Production, Behaviour, Health, and Welfare of Broiler Chickens” today!
We are so proud to announce the Karen has been promoted from an Associate Professor to a full Professor, which is very well deserved. She is an amazing teacher/mentor, with an incredible work ethic, vast knowledge base, and wonderful attitude!
Our newest MSc student is Bailey Munson who is from Churchbridge, Saskatchewan. She will be studying the impact of transportation on turkey hens and toms.
We are excited to welcome our two summer students to our group! Annette Gaudet and Keara Leong-Machielse. They will be helping us out with some research projects this summer and have already proved to be great additions to our team!
We are excited to welcome our new Postdoctoral Fellow, Carolin Adler! Carolin comes to us from Germany and she has already proven to be a fantastic addition to our research group!
We would like to welcome April Hammond to our research group! April is a MSc candidate whose project focuses on "The effects of LED light flicker on turkey hens’ production, health, and welfare to 11 weeks of age"
We are beyond excited to announce that Sameeha Jhetam successfully defended her MSc, "The impact of stocking density on the performance, health and welfare of turkey hens"!
Sameeha is a valued member of our research team and we are very pleased to announce that she will be staying in our group to complete her PhD starting in September! We have another new MSc joining our research group! Her name is Adelle Herr and her project involves the determination of ideal perch space allowance for pullets.
