We would like to welcome our newest student, Samantha McPhee! Sami was a summer student at the Poultry Centre and had decided to do her Masters degree with our research group. Her project focuses on the impact of LED flicker on pullet productivity and welfare to 16 weeks of age.

We have 2 exciting pieces of news regarding Jo Ann!
1. Jo Ann successfully defended her MSc thesis today; "The Effects of Light Intensity During Rearing on Brown- and White-Feathered Egg Strain Pullets’ Use of Space, Behaviour, and Health". 2. Jo Ann will be taking over the position of Manger at the UofS Poultry Centre, while our current Manager Jocelyn is on maternity leave. Jo Ann starts her new position January 4 and we know she will do an amazing job! Congrats Jo Ann! Carley has successfully defended her MSc “The Effects of Simulated Transportation on White-Feathered End-of-Cycle Laying Hens” and we are so happy for her!
We are very pleased to announce that Eugenia has accepted a position with Egg Farmers of Canada as their Program and Policy Analyst. We wish her all the best in her new role!
We are happy to announce that Shaan successfully defended his MSc on "Yellow mealworm larvae (tenebrio molitor) grown on Deoxynivalenol-contaminated wheat as a feed ingredient for broiler chickens" this morning!
We would like to congratulate Sameeha on being selected as one of three Saskatchewan-based young people for the Agricultural Youth Council. We are very proud of her for this achievement and know she will provide valuable insight.

Karen was awarded the National Turkey Federation Research Award, which is given to recognize distinctive research work that has a strong economic impact on the turkey broiler industry, primarily on the economic influence the work has had or will have on the industry.
In addition, Sarah, who is now working on her PhD in Scotland, received the Alltech Student Research Manuscript Award for one of the papers she published from her MSc work at the U of S . This award is given to a graduate student for the presentation and publication as senior author of an outstanding research manuscript in Poultry Science® or The Journal of Applied Poultry Research. We are so excited for her and know that she is indeed deserving of this recognition!

We are very pleased to share that Samantha Lalonde successfully defended her MSc thesis this morning! Sam has worked very hard for this achievement and we are very proud of her!
This was our group's first ever webinar defence and a total of 24 people joined the meeting, in addition to Sam and her thesis committee.
